Phillis Mae Medling Spell

Phillis Mae (Medling) Spell, 83, of Fairdealing, Mo, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Oklahoma City.

Phillis, one of 11 children, was born Feb. 26, 1933 in Marmaduke, Ark. to Carl and Otis McMurtry Medling. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and a devoted caretaker to many of the local children. Phillis loved attending church, listening to gospel and country music, dancing and gardening. Most of all, she loved fellowshiping with friends and neighbors.

In January 1947, she married Edward Calvin Spell in Corning, Ark. He preceded her in death in August 1997.

Phillis is survived by her four children: Paul Spell of Cadet, Mo., Elaine Spell of Edmond, Okla., Ron Spell of Sikeston, Mo. and Ken Spell of Miami, Fla.; four siblings, June Huson, Jerry Medling, Carolyn Shelton, and Joan Jones; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was her son, Bill Spell in 2007.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 21 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 am Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Marvin Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Fairdealing Cemetery.
