Quieonn Blackman

Quieonn Blackman, Sr., 78, Poplar Bluff passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Mr. Blackman was born April 11, 1932 in Catron, Mo., the third of six children of Lloyd and Irene Blackman. He confessed hope in Christ at an early age, and was later ordained a Deacon at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Johnny Williams as well as Deacon at Central Missionary Baptist Church under pastor-ship of Rev. Keith Frye. Mr. Blackman also served as the Sunday School Superintendent and president of the Deacon Board at Central Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Blackman was a man of many talents and careers, and retired from the Daily American Republic in 2005. In his early years he enjoyed playing baseball. Although he could play any position on the field he loved being behind the plate. Mr. Blackman was also known to coach from the sideline of many games of which he attended. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed their early morning phone calls, visiting with his friends, fishing, traveling, and watching his grandchildren participate in their many activities.

Mr. Blackman met his life companion, Ruthie Mae Jackson, in the Morocco community where they lived most of their lives. They were married March 20, 1952. She survives.

Other survivors include eleven children from this union: Rickie Blackman (JoAnn Sullivan) of Houston, Tex., Tyrone (Carrie) Blackman of Germantown, Maryland, Malcolm Blackman of Hagerstown, Maryland, Quieonn Blackman, Jr. of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Marcel (Stacy) Blackman of Germantown, Maryland, Beverly Blackman of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Tina (Lee) Gladney of Montgomery Village, Maryland, Laverl (Michael) Yon of Clarksburg, Maryland, Sonya Blackman and Marolyn Blackman, both of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a son from a prior marriage, Edgar Bolden of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Ethel Green of St. Louis and Florence Green of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers, Joseph (Marilyn) Blackman of Poplar Bluff and Marcel (Anna) Blackman of El Sobranate, Calif.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, a daughter, Ethelyn Blackman and a brother, Roy Blackman
preceded Mr. Blackman.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Keith Frye officiating. Burial will be at Morocco Cemetery at Broseley.
