Raymond Starling Hellums, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Hellums was born Sept. 17, 1922 in Poplar Bluff. He had retired from Barnes Grocer Co. as a supervisor. Mr. Hellums enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and gardening.
On July 22, 1948 he married Grace Aileen Turner in Arkansas. She survives.
Other survivors include six children: Joyce Darnell and husband Willie, John Casey and wife Earlene, Don Hellums and wife Debra and Stanley Hellums all of Poplar Bluff, Carol Loury and husband Mike of Hinesville, Ga. and Ron Hellums and wife Bonnie of Mt. Washington, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Sisk of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, Howard Hellums and wife Annabelle of Pensacola, Fla.
His parents, Joseph and Dolly (Gunter) Hellums, sisters, Ruby Maples and Dorothy Humphrey, brother, Paul Hellums and granddaughter, Elizabeth Hellums preceded Mr. Hellums in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Chapel with the Rev. Bob Moore and the Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating. Burial will be at Kern's Chapel Cemetery in Stringtown.
