Richard Lee Creviston

Richard Lee Creviston, 88, a longtime resident of Morgan County, passed from this life on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 8:35 pm at The Springs of Mooresville with his loved ones by his side. Richard’s life began on Thursday, May 29, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was one of five children born to the late William P. and Opal M. (Wood) Creviston.

After graduating from high school, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force. He served his country with valor during the Korean War from October 17, 1950 until October 16, 1954, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. On February 4, 1951, while on leave, he married the love of his life, Leta JoAnn (Sneed) Creviston. The two spent over 61 years of marriage before Leta’s passing on November 5, 2012.

In 1946, at the age of sixteen, Richard earned his pilot’s license. He had a passion for aviation and it showed throughout his entire life. In the early years of his married life, he and JoAnn lived and raised their family in Indianapolis, where Richard owned and operated an aircraft maintenance facility for several years during the 1960’s and 1970’s. In 1979, they built their home in Monrovia and lived there for the remainder of their lives.

In addition to his aircraft maintenance facility, Richard owned an antique shop, and later was a school bus driver for the Indianapolis Public Schools. He was a skilled artisan who worked in many media and enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors.

He is survived by a host of family and friends who will remember him fondly including his son, Richard “Rick” Creviston Jr. and his wife, Isabel Creviston, of Fenton, Missouri; daughter, LiAnne Gabe and her husband, Arthur Gabe, of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Andrew Michael Creviston, Kelly Lynn Persson, Samuel Milton Gabe and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leta JoAnn; one grandson, Ricky Lee Creviston III; two brothers, Robert E. and Charles Creviston and two sisters, Velma Nichols and Pearl McIntosh.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 12 Noon – 1:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. There will be a service celebrating Richard’s life immediately following the visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial with military honors and a graveside service will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
