Richard Henry Hancock

Richard Henry Hancock, 84, of Piedmont, Mo. died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 in Piedmont.

Mr. Hancock, the 2nd of 11 children, was born Oct. 9, 1928 in Hartzell, Mo. to the late Simon J. and Dorothy Opal (Fitzgerrel) Hancock. He was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church in Patterson, and had previously worked in St. Louis as a Landscaper. After retiring he moved to Piedmont, where he enjoyed fishing, boating and being outside.

On March 29, 1952, he was married to Joyce F. Lane in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2007.

Mr. and Mrs. Hancock were blessed with 3 children, Richard M. Hancock and wife, Mary, of St. Charles, and Rita K. Russo and Sherry Debra Taslicky and husband, Michael, all of Piedmont; 5 grandchildren, Johnathan Martin and wife Becky, Rachel Bruno and husband, Nick, James Matt Martin and wife, Sarah, Jason Hancock and wife, Jennifer, and Daniel Hancock and wife, Elizabeth; 2 step-grandchildren, Janet Sloan and husband, Cary, and Frank Russo and wife, Sandy; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Ruby McMurtry, Betty Lampe and husband, Cecil, Marie Miskle and husband, Thomas, and Martha Bubenik and husband, Bobby; a sister-in-law, Paula Hancock; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend and will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hancock was preceded by a son-in-law, Michael Russo, 3 sisters, Geneva Matheny and husband, Arvil, Linda Sedrick and husband, Charles, and Shirley Spence and husband, Gene, and 3 brothers, Leo Hancock and wife, Wilma, Herbert Hancock, and Jerry Hancock, and a brother-in-law, Ralph McMurtry.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with Pastor Darrel Loughridge officiating. Burial will be at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
