Butler County, Missouri
Richard L. “Butch” Thacker, 73, owner and operator of The Bug Shop in Poplar Bluff, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Butch, the son of the late William “Bill” and Mary Clayton Thacker, was born April 24, 1946 in Campbell, Mo. He enjoyed working and worked every day until his latest illness. Butch enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He married Clara Elizabeth “Liz” Morgan Gatewood on December 5, 1969. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2005.
Survivors include three children, Dana Swiney of Jefferson City, Darrell (Jackie) Louis Thacker of Malden and Douglas Bryan (Debbie) Gatewood of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren, Samantha Gatewood, Dustin Gatewood, Devin Gatewood, Dalton Gatewood and Joshua Thacker; a brother, Cecil Thacker; and a sister Gail Moore of Texas.
A sister Janice Parks and four brothers, Bill Thacker, Jr., Charlie Thacker, Bob Thacker and Don Thacker also preceded Butch in death.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3rd at Cochran Cemetery in Butler County with the Rev. Leroy and Rev. Carolyn Lundry officiating.
