Robert Watson Myrant

Dr. Robert Watson Myrant, 89, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Dr. Myrant was born Aug. 26, 1922 in Poplar Bluff, and was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Chief Petty Officer. Dr. Myrant received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible, and later received a Doctorate Degree in Theology from St. Louis Theological Seminary. He was instrumental in starting numerous churches throughout the United States, and taught Ancient Hebrew and Greek throughout South Africa, Egypt, and Greece as well as other parts of the world. In 1956, while in route to India as a missionary, his wife contracted tuberculosis. Unable to travel, Dr. Myrant remained in the United States where he raised his family and served as a missionary and Bible teacher until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing chess and golf.

On Jan. 21, 1946, he married Emma Sue Hogg in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1995.

Survivors include six children: Deborah Jean Buck and her husband, Dr. Ronald Buck of Lakewood Colo., John Rodney Myrant of Omaha, Neb., Charles David Myrant and his wife, Glee, of Castle Rock, Colo., Paul Robert Myrant and his wife, Jan, of Lakewood, Colo., Samuel L. Myrant and his wife, Paula Jean of Lakewood, Colo., and Phillip M. Myrant and his wife Marie of Highland Ranch, Colo.; fourteen grandchildren: Robert Elliott, Joel Myrant, Beth Myrant, Scott Elliott, Suzanne Myrant, Peter Myrant, Stephanie Shurance, Cody Myrant, Daniel Myrant, Andrew Myrant, Nicholas Myrant, Sarah Myrant, John Mark Myrant and John Luke Myrant; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Paul Hogg and his wife, Helen, of Poplar Bluff and Medford Hogg and his wife, Mae, of Baton Rouge, La.; four nephews, Roger Hogg, Danny Hogg, Edward Hicks II and Donald Hicks, all of Poplar Bluff; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, Samuel Houston and Minnie Lee Myrant, and twelve brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

A graveside service with full military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28th at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating.
