Roy L. Tibbs

Roy L. Tibbs, 84, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Tibbs, the son of the late James and Pearl Hawken Tibbs, was born Sept. 14, 1932 in Poplar Bluff. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Mr. Tibbs was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had retired from the Poplar Bluff Fire Department after 36 years of service.

In 1972, he married Shirley Maize in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2016.

Survivors include four children, Nancy Rathjen, Bob McMurray and Melissa McCartie all of St. Louis and David McMurray of Fairdealing; eight grandchildren, Erin, Alan, Emma, Kevin, Henry, Madeleine, Cullin and Quinn; and four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Ben, Hannah and William.

A sister, Helen Fick preceded Mr. Tibbs in death.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Celebration of Life with full Firefighter’s Funeral Honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father William Hodgson officiating.
