Ruth Ann Brickell

Ruth Ann Brickell, 72, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010
at her residence.

Mrs. Brickell was born Nov. 25, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Choir, Senior Choir and Rejoice Ladies Ensemble. Mrs. Brickell touched many lives in her teaching career, which began in a one-room school in Hendrickson, Mo. She later taught at several Poplar Bluff Elementary schools, the Junior High school and the Senior High school before retiring from Three Rivers Community College as an English-Reading Specialist and counselor. Mrs. Brickell served on the Library Committee at Three Rivers Community College, was a Booster for the Raider's Basketball Program and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

On Aug. 24, 1962, she married Jay H. Brickell in Pittsburgh, Pa. He survives.

Other survivors include two children, Geri Evans and husband, David of St. Louis, Mo. and Scott Brickell and wife, Stacy of Franklin, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jake Brickell, Sara Grace Brickell, Mary-Clair Brickell, Ruth Dixie Brickell and Samuel Evans; a brother, William Bilyak and wife, Margaret of Champion, Pa.; an uncle, Paul Zarenko of Erie, Pa.; her mother-in-law, Ava Brickell Turner of Harviell, Mo.; and an aunt, Helen Starling of Poplar Bluff.

Her parents, Samuel and Mary (Zarenko) Bilyak preceded her in death.

The family will receive and visit with friends and family from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Rev. John Gilbert, Rev. Ron Lomax and Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff.

Memorials may be made to the Now and Forever Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 551 N Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
