Sallye Ann Turner Letassy

October 26, 1933 — January 29, 2010

Sallye Ann Turner Letassy, age 76, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 after a lengthy illness at Des Peres Hospital in St Louis, Mo.

Sallye was born Oct. 26, 1933 in Ft. Smith, Ark. She received her nurses training at St Edward's Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark and worked as an RN at St Joseph's Hospital in Kirkwood Mo.; then at Poplar Bluff Hospital for many years until retirement. She volunteered as Camp Nurse at Camp Latonka while her daughters were Girl Scouts and held offices thereafter until the present time, earning the coveted Thanks Badge given to recognize outstanding performance for the position held. Sallye taught first grade Sunday School at First Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club in the city where she gave talks on her favorite gardening methods and her extensive knowledge of bird watching. Her favorite travel sites were the Galapagos, Australia, New Zealand, the Cotswold's, the Slovak Republic and Nova Scotia.

She leaves a husband Bernard; a daughter Nancy of Edmond, Okla. and her husband Mark Britton and grandson Cameron; a daughter Susan Chaudoin of Florissant, Mo and grandchildren Bannus, Sagan and Erin; a daughter Stephanie and her husband John Henggeler of Kansas City; and a son David and his wife Carla of Poplar Bluff.

Sallye was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Sally Turner of Ft. Smith, Ark.

Friends and family will be received at a memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 27th at the Westwood Center, 2445 North Westwood Blvd. in Poplar Bluff with a reception following at 4 p.m.

Memorials can be given to Camp Latonka Girl Scouts at Wappapello, or the Green Thumb Garden Club of Poplar Bluff.
