Sammy Ray Jackson

July 20, 1947 — April 9, 2017

Sammy R. Jackson, 69, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Jackson, the son of the late Roy C. and Lula Harris Jackson, was born July 20, 1947 in Kennett, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Jackson proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He began his career in law enforcement with the Kennett Police Department before moving to the Poplar Bluff Police Department and then to the Cape Girardeau Sheriffs Department as a Lieutenant he then retired after a 26-year career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he enjoyed working on old cars and he enjoyed spending time at deer camp..

On Jan. 21, 1967 Mr. Jackson married Sherry L. Jaques in White Oak, Mo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two children; Paul Jackson of Poplar Bluff and Sandra Jackson of Tumwater, Wa.; two grandchildren, Colin Jackson and Samantha Jackson; brothers, Harold Jackson of Grandin and Glen Jackson of Bentonville, Ark.; and sisters, Virginia Phillips of Memphis, Tenn. and Elizabeth Jackson of Gideon, Mo.

Two brothers, James Jackson and Louis Jackson, and sister, Evelyn Hartwick and a grandson, Jace Jackson, preceded him in death.
