Samuel Harvey Smith

Samuel H. Smith, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.Mr. Smith graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1956, and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1960 with a BS degree in Business Administration. From 1961 to 1963 he served as an Officer in the US Army, being discharged with the rank of Captain. In 1965, Mr. Smith graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a BS degree in Civil engineering. Upon graduation from Rolla, he worked in Kansas City for Butler Manufacturing Company as a project manager.In 1968, he founded S.H. Smith and Company in Poplar Bluff, where he worked for 38 years. Mr. Smith initiated an employee stock ownership trust (ESOP) in 1994 and sold the business to the employees in 2005.Mr. Smith served on the Board of directors of Southern Missouri Bank Corporation for over 20 years.Mr. Smith was the beloved husband of Whitty June Fernimen Smith, dear father of Samuel Timothy Smith and brother of Patty Spain.His parents, Clarence and Dessie Smith preceded him in death.A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father William Hodgson serving as Celebrant.
