Shirley J. Dodson, 66, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Dodson was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Los Angeles, Calif. She was an active member of Westwood Baptist Church where she served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. Mrs. Dodson enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, singing and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia.
On April 15, 1961 she married George W. ""Bill"" Dodson in Springfield. He survives.
Other survivors include 2 children: Georgia Alvarez and husband Baltazar of Dallas, Tex. and Cheryl Dowling and husband Steven of Williamsville; 2 foster daughters: Sherry and Carrie; 2 grandchildren: William Kellett Dowling and Alexander Lee Dowling of Williamsville; step-mother and step-father, Ione and Clem Deken of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Mary Jane Coon and husband Bill of Alta Loma, Calif.; and a step-brother, Steve Rueck and wife Teresa of Williamsville.
Her parents, Charles Otto and Wilma (White) Alexander, and brothers, James Croft and Steve Alexander preceded Mrs. Dodson in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Westwood Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating. In accordance to Mrs. Dodson's wishes she will be cremated after the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Dodson's memory to Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 419 County Road 5231, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
