POPLAR BLUFF

Our beloved mother, Susan Jane Wisdom-Cunningham, 78, of Poplar Bluff Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026. Born on May 11, 1948, in Chanute, Kansas. She lived a life full of grace, warmth, quiet contemplation of Jesus with an endless love for her children, grandchildren, and her family.

Our mom, Susan, was raised in a small-town Chanute, Kansas and graduated from Chanute High School. She was always so proud to have been a cheerleader and to be the editor of the newspaper while in high school. She was a raving beauty, yet she was shy and did not realize just how beautiful she was.

Our mother was joined in marriage with Robert Wisdom and Stanley Cunningham. She bore her beloved children from both marriages and lived the remainder of her life dedicated to the Lord and her family.

Our mother received her Practical Nursing Diploma and served her community in Poplar Bluff, Missouri for many years. She was a dedicated nurse and very selfless when it came to the care of her patients. She worked through battling breast cancer twice while still working and providing for her family. She truly was the strongest woman we have ever known.

Our mother loved the outdoors, birds, and flowers. She especially loved her white oak trees at her white oak home that lived in for many years in Poplar Bluff. She loved to rake leaves, ride horses in her pasture, taking walks to the creek, and watching the storms roll in. She loved rocks and collecting rocks. She had a rock garden at her home and loved the weather channel and storm chasing. She loved thrifting and yard sales. She absolutely loved her morning coffee. She was a Ham Radio Operator. Her call sign was KB0ZOY.

She found joy in her family and found strength in her faith, while always holding sound strong biblical principles and beliefs. She prayed the prayer of Jabez over her children and grandchildren every day. We knew this because she would tell us. She was very open about her faith, and she was a prayer warrior to her death. Her first child David Wisdom passed away June 2025. David was her special son, as he had special needs, and loved him very dearly. She was his caregiver in his last days and was so selfless while caring for him.

Our mother is survived by her 5 children, Benjamin Wisdom, Erica Wisdom, Kristin Ziade, Sara Brown, and Crystal Cunninham-Roth. She had 8 grandchildren, Cristina Marzolf, Landon Bringer, Blake Brown, Kaine Lewis, Laken Lewis, Francesca Wisdom Graham, Avana Birdsong, and Geneva Genova; with 2 great grandchildren, Elliana Marzolf and Mattix Marzolf.

She is survived by her brothers Richard Hesting, Dean Hesting and Danny Hesting.

She was predeceased by her parents, Doris Hesting Grove and Robert Lee Hesting, and her beloved son, David Wisdom.
