Velta Viola Gibbs, 90, of Ocala, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at Ocala Oaks in Ocala.
Mrs. Gibbs was born July 14, 1922 in Broseley, Mo. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Ocala, and was a homemaker. During World War II, Mrs. Gibbs worked for A.C. Spark Plug Company, and in later years she drove a school bus, worked in a grocery store and for Bell Telephone Co. all while living in South Elgin, Ill. Mrs. Gibbs enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and crocheting.
On Jan. 29, 1951, she married Ernest H. Gibbs in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2003.
Survivors include 3 children: Ethelda Hillsman and her husband John of Crestview, Fla., Elton Self and his wife Diane of Scales Mound, Ill., and David Gibbs and his wife Diane of Lebanon, Tenn.; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Christene Angelly of Brookport, Ill., Janet Foust of Poplar Bluff and Marilyn Rush of Houston, Tex.; and a brother, J.F. Barnett of Onalaska, Tex.
Her parents, Clyde Marion and Mary Gertrude (Brown) Barnett also preceded her in death.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, Mo. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Leland Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley, Mo.
