Venita ""Neen"" Mae Maxfield, 91, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away on her birthday, Friday, April 5, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Maxfield was born on April 5, 1922, in Centralia, IL to George Wesley and Pearl F. Tabor Owens.

She married John Harold Maxfield; he preceded her in death in 1976.

Mrs. Maxfield was a retired teacher. She taught at Central City School and she also worked at the Defense Plant during the War. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centralia. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, a Lioness in the Lion's Club, where she served as President, Vice-President and Treasurer. She was a mentor, where she taught children to read and helped with prison education for Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL. She helped start Cancer drives. She also helped to change the system for education able mentally handicapped children to mainstream classrooms.

She is survived by one daughter, Ronna M. McPhail (Jimmy Ray) of Poplar Bluff, MO, granddaughters: Tara Janae Maxfield, of Poplar Bluff, and Jesse Ramsey of Chicago, Il, and a grandson, Tyler Ray Maxfield of Poplar Bluff, and two special friends: Teddy and Bob Cavitt.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at a later date.

Memorial may be made in Venita's honor to St. Jude's Hospital.
