Verlin D. "Butch" Gambill

Verlin "Butch" Gambill, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his residence.

Butch, son of the late Vernon and Aileen Everett Gambill, was born Nov. 23, 1940 in Ash Hill, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime farmer. Butch also worked as an outside maintenance supervisor for the Poplar Bluff R-1 School System. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1963. He was a member of Poplar Bluff Masonic Lodge 142, a member of the Shriners, where he served as President in 2002, was Shriner of the Year in 2004 and was a former Ambassador for the Moolah Temple.

On July 8, 1961 he married Nelda Dicken in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Teresa Stonecipher of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren, Shaundel Stonecipher, Stefanie Brumitt, Jonathan Gambill, Kimberly Stonecipher, Kassie (Alex) Nicolini, Jessica (Jon) Faucher and Natalie Stonecipher; five great-grandchildren, Nicholaus Brumitt, J. J. Faucher, Bentley Alford, Jeremiah Faucher and Ryder Alford; a sister, Wanda (Dale) Gaebler of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by a son, Steven Gambill and a grandson, Jordan Gambill in 2014 and a son-in-law, Robert Stonecipher in 2010.

A Masonic service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with visitation following until 8 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with Rev. David Middleton officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at 3 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
