Vernon Carl Crossen

Vernon Carl Crossen, 92, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Mark Twain Caring Center.

Vernon, the son of the late Ollie and Edith Crockett Crossen, was born May 28, 1925 in Neelyville, Mo. He graduated from Neelyville High School and The University of Missouri.

Vernon was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and as a member of the finance committee for many years. He started his career at the Bank of Poplar Bluff, where he worked for 11 years. Vernon then was employed with John Morrell Meat Company and retired after 28 years as a salesman.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and teaching his son, sons-in-law, grandsons and great-grandchildren how to enjoy his favorite activities. Vernon cherished time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his faithful service to his God, to his church and to his family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Glenna McKinney Crossen; four children: Judy (Steve) Trail of Thayer, Mo., Debbie (Curtis) Divine of Poplar Bluff, Kimberly (Todd) Gebhardt of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Crossen of Springfield; six grandchildren: Michael (Lynette) Trail, Christi (Toby) Spradlin, Kathy (Paul) Tarpley, Crystal (Jason) Patterson, Kristen (Matt) Hilton and Sarah Crossen ;15 great-grandchildren; and a sister Earlene Sherill of Cape Girardeau.

Vernon was also preceded in death by one grandson Kyle Divine and two brothers Troy and Bill.

The visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with his son-in-law The Rev. Steve Trail officiating and his Pastor The Rev. Brandon Spain assisting. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
