Vernon Loy Kanell

Vernon Loy Kanell, 67, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.

Mr. Kanell was born January 31,1946 in Butler County, to John and Iva Gladys Walker Kanell.

On December 29, 1972, he married Shirley Marie Chatman in Poplar Bluff, she survives of the home.

Mr. Kanell served his country in Vietnam, in the United Stated Army, for which he received a Purple Heart and various other metals. He retired from the Municipal Utilities in February of 2012. He enjoyed spending time with his family, wood working, painting pictures and using his metal detector.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his sons; John Timothy Stair and Vernon Ashley Kanell, both of Poplar Bluff., a grandson; Jacob Stair, a great granddaughter, Mia Stair, three sisters; Fay Powell (Robert), Betty Pruitt, and Wanda Burkett (James), all of Poplar Bluff, and a brother Robert Aaron Kanell of Santa Anna, CA.

Mr. Kanell was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings; Claudie, Billie, Norman and Glenn Kanell.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 ?2:30 p.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. Graveside Services with Military Honors will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Timothy Stair officiating.
