Virginia A. Robertson

November 19, 1930 — July 19, 2011

Virginia Ann Abbott Robertson, 80, of Poplar Bluff and wife of the late Dr. W.D. Robertson died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Virginia was born November 19, 1930 in Malvern, Ark., and grew up in Pine Bluff, Ark. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1948, and attended Texas State College for Women and Henderson University. Virginia moved to Poplar Bluff in 1961 when her husband became a partner in McPheeters Clinic and Lucy Lee Hospital. She was a member of the Women's Medical Auxiliary, a founding member of the Poplar Bluff Chapter of Women's AGLOW International, a member of the Poplar Bluff Public Library Board, a member of Chapter MF PEO, and an active member of Midland Church of Poplar Bluff.

Virginia loved her God, her family, her friends and her community. Her untiring dedication to her husband enabled him to touch many lives through his medical practice. They had a very special relationship of friendship and love, and spent many days enjoying the outdoors and each other. Mostly, they built a home for their children that was full of love and left many magical memories. Her care for him in his last years was courageous.

Since she was an only child her friends became her sisters, and she always looked forward to sharing weekends or just a cup of coffee with them.

Virginia touched many lives in the community through social organizations. She was always ready to serve on boards and committees. Her religious convictions were strong and a big part of her life. Virginia helped to establish and govern several churches and authored hundreds of bible studies. She talked frequently about her anticipation of spending eternity in Heaven.

Survivors include three daughters, Paige Robertson and husband, Charles Duren, Claire Robertson Landers and husband Richard all of Poplar Bluff and Lee Robertson Little and husband, Frank of Bartlesville, Okla.; five grandchildren: Kiel McCall of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mattee McCall of Tulsa, Okla., and Katy Claire Landers, Sam Landers and Molly Landers all of Poplar Bluff; one great-granddaughter, Madison McCall; and two nieces, Meg Benson and Scottie Benson Larson.
