Warnie Yuell Whitener

Warnie Yuell Whitener, 73, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Fairdealing, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Whitener was born Dec. 26, 1937 in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, and had retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served in the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Whitener later worked for the Poplar Bluff Housing Authority.

On Sept. 14, 1957, he married Judith L. Thorn in Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Karl Adam Whitener and wife Debra of Fairdealing, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jamie Woolard, Michael Lowry, Matthew Lowry, Christina Ehlinger and Jennifer Strickland; four great-grandchildren, Beth Woolard, Brock Woolard, Bella Woolard and Colton Ehlinger; and a brother, Norvell Whitener of Wappapello, Mo.

His parents, Roligh and Alice Mabel (Edwards) Whitener, daughter, Mary Dean Lowry and sister, Mabel Dornin preceded Mr. Whitener in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service and burial with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating.
