Wayman E. Terrell, 86, of Poplar Bluff, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Terrell was born Dec. 19, 1923 in Sikeston, and was a graduate of Sikeston High School class of 1941. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a flight engineer; 1948 to 1954 was manager of Gift Chest Jewelers in Poplar Bluff; 1954 to 1973 was marketing representative for Sinclair/Atlantic Richfield Oil Companies; and from 1974 to 1989 was Regional and Urban Planner for Ozark Foothills Planning Commission. Mr. Terrell was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, where he formerly served as a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing and communicating on his ham radio.
On Nov. 17, 1956 he married Audra Jean Forrester in Sikeston. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Ann Terrell Smith of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, Megan Anne Smith, Ben Maxwell and wife Dana and Mark Maxwell and wife Amanda all of Poplar Bluff; and two great-grandchildren, Kylyn Maxwell and Brynna Maxwell.
His parents, William Sherman and Lucy (Hahn) Terrell, sisters, Nellie Bates and Helen DeSalvo and brothers, Willard Terrell, Herschel Terrell and Luther Terrell preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Charles Buck officiating.
The family encourages memorial contributions be made in Mr. Terrell's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
