William A. Brooks

William A. Brooks, 86, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Brooks, son of the late Arthur and Gladys Finch Brooks, was born April 23, 1930 in Alto, Texas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, where he served on the Administrative Council. Mr. Brooks also served on the Board of the Margaret Harwell Art Museum, Board of Haven House, Board of the Friends of Children and Board of the Stage Company. He also served as a volunteer at Doctor's Regional Medical Center for several years. Mr. Brooks enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and helping people.

On June 4, 1949, he married Margaret R. Grant in Houston, Texas. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Bill (Audie) Brooks of Midland, Texas and Thomas (Danita) Brooks of Sealy, Texas; two grandchildren, Stephanie Aikin and David Brooks; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Ann Aikin, Katelynn Aikin and Robert Aikin; two sisters, Nancy Brooks and Shirley Meeks of Mineola, Texas; and a brother, Aubrey Lewis (Boots) Brooks of Alto, Texas.

Four brothers, LeRoy "Pete" Brooks, R.L. Brooks, Travis Brooks and Arthur Brooks and a sister, Madelyn Sharp also preceded Mr. Brooks in death.

The family will receive friends and other relatives beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. David Stewart officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 1630 W. Elfindale St., Springfield, MO 65807-1286 in his memory.
