William Ray Crider

William Ray Crider, 82, of Poplar Bluff passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 at The Manor in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Crider was born Aug. 14, 1931 in Poplar Bluff. He was a former active member of South Side Assembly of God where he had also been active in the Jail Ministry. Mr. Crider had retired after 2 years of service with the U.S. Marines and 23 years with the U.S. Navy, and later retired from the Poplar Bluff Housing Authority. Mr. Crider was also a member of Masonic Lodge 209 in Poplar Bluff. He enjoyed classic movies and reading.

On Oct. 5, 1979, he married Bertie Jane Ward in Scott City, Mo. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Lynn Crider of Jonesboro, Ark.; two granddaughters: Jasmine Viehe and Vanessa Viehe; and two great-grandchildren: Arlo Viehe-Cline and Nova Viehe-Cline.

His parents, Charles Joseph and Lucy Wayne Sterman Crider, son, Michael R. Crider, and stepdaughters, Patricia Ann Kren and Linda Johns also preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Jerry Lemons officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
