William Franklin Moore

William Franklin Moore, Sr. 90, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Mark Twain Caring Center.

Mr. Moore was born July 22, 1918 in Wayne County, Mo. He was a longtime member of Little Brushy Missionary Baptist Church of Wappapello, and served on the Board for Little Brushy Cemetery. In 1963 Mr. Moore retired as a Nurse's Assistant from John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Puxico; and former member of Scottish Rite Body of Missouri. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served during World War II with the 8th Air Force Division, 401st. Bomb Group, 613th Squadron, and was a lifetime member of D.A.V. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing.

On Jan. 26, 1946 he married Florine McGowen in Butler County. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Nola Sue ""Susie"" Johnson, of Cahokia, Ill.; 3 grandchildren: Drew Allen Johnson, of Cahokia, Ill., Cyndi Capps and husband Bobby of Cahokia, Ill. and Wesley Randle ""Randy"" Johnson Jr. and wife Kara of Belleville, Ill.; 6 great-grandchildren: Andy Jackson and girl-friend Jennifer Best, Sabrina Johnson, Chelsea Capps, Wesley Randle ""Trey"" Johnson III, Trinity Capps and Brooke Johnson; great-great-grandson, Dillon Jackson; an aunt, Evelyn Simpson of Puxico; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

His parents, Harry Edgar and Ora Edna (Coleman) Moore, day old son, William Franklin Moore, Jr., brother, Lewis Moore and son-in-law, Wesley Randle Johnson Sr. preceded Mr. Moore in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Wappapello Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wappapello Chapel with the Rev. Vaughn Kirkman officiating and the Rev. Tim Schultz assisting. Burial with full military honors will be at Little Brushy Cemetery at Wappapello.
