William Buck Price, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, June 26, 2009 after a year long illness.
Mrs. Price was born March 14, 1922 near Evening Shade, Ark. He was a graduate of Naylor High School and Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in Cape Girardeau where he obtained a teaching certificate. Mr. Price served in the U. S. Army during WW II on the island of Saipan as a member of the Army Battalion. In 1946 he graduated from Poplar Bluff Beauty College and worked as a barber for many years. Mr. Price was an owner of Bluff City Motors in Poplar Bluff, the Ford dealership for 39 years. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. In his retirement he enjoyed his catfish farm and visits from his grandchildren.
On Sept. 1, 1946, he married Gloria B. Pyles in Poplar Bluff, where they resided all their married life. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include his son, Steven A. Price of Poplar Bluff; daughter, Susan (Price) Edgin and husband Howard of Benton Harbor, Mich.; three grandchildren: Emily M. Thurman and husband Bryan of Poplar Bluff, Andrew L. Stewart of Rushville, NY and Mollie E. Hazel and husband Will of Burlington, Vt.; five great grandchildren: Shelby Stewart of Rushville, NY, Warren and Price Thurman of Poplar Bluff, and Aron and Connor Hazel of Burlington, Vt.; sisters: Kathleen Daugherty of Piedmont, Agnes Burnsworth and husband William of Anderson, Ind.; brother, W.O. Price of Tampa, Fla.; and special friend, Lillie Campbell of Poplar Bluff, his caretaker for the last 2 years.
His parents, W.O. and Osage (Johnson) Price, and brother James M. Price preceded Mr. Price in death.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
