Wilma Jean (Chatman) Fowler

Wilma Jean Chatman Fowler, 76, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Fowler, the daughter of Laura L. Sisson Chatman and the late Carvel Houston Chatman, was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Poplar Bluff. She was an active member of Stringtown Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Fowler was a school teacher for many years and was a Missionary, having served with the North American Mission Board. She was secretary and coordinator for the Cane Creek Stoddard Baptist Association, which included working with the BSU at Three Rivers College. Mrs. Fowler enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her mother, teaching, flowers, feeding the fish in her pond and feeding her horses.

On Aug, 28, 1959, she married Carroll Dean Fowler in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2004.

Survivors include her son, Steve (Alesia) Fowler of Billings, Montana; two grandchildren, Carrie Fowler and fiancé, Chris Reeves and Mark (Ashley) Fowler of Montana; two adopted grandchildren, Zak and Autumn; four sisters, Carolyn Borton of Freeburg, Ill., Donna (Ron) Hatley of Jonesboro, Ark., LaVerne Clark of O'Fallon, Mo. and Louise (Lucien) St. Croix of Poplar Bluff; and a brother, Jerry (Gina) Chatman of Poplar Bluff.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel with her son, Pastor Steve Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Black Creek Cemetery in Butler County.
