Wilma L. (Cosby) Payne

July 14, 1926 — May 29, 2015

Wilma L. Payne, 88, of Poplar Bluff, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Payne was born July 14, 1926 near Neelyville, to the late Ella Mae and Cecil Cosby. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. Mrs. Payne worked for several years at H.W. Gossard Garment Factory and later retired from New Leaf Florist. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed sports, especially, the St. Louis Cardinals and listening to country music.

On July 18, 1942, she married Albert N. "Friday" Payne in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2006.

Survivors include three sons: Jerry (Carol) Payne of St. Charles, Allen (Sue) Payne of Poplar Bluff and Dennis (Crystal) Payne of Columbia; five grandchildren: Cassie (Rob) Kampen of Florissant, Kristie (David) Cross of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Ben (Christina) Payne of Poplar Bluff, John Payne of St. Louis and Stacy (Mark) Tiggard of Wauwatosa, Wisc.; 13 great-grandchildren; Emily and Zach Kampen, Kaleb, Josh, Kate, Sara, Leslie and Forrest Cross, Rena, Asa and Sybil Payne, and Skylar and Harrison Triggard; a sister, Ruth Ann Snider of Poplar Bluff; and a very, very special friend, Betty Payne of St. Charles.

Preceding her in death along with her husband and parents are one sister, Mary Nell Cosby and two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Carl Edward Cosby.

Wilma lived a very happy life, some hard times but some very good times. She loved her three sons and their wives. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She felt that God was good to her and she was ready to go meet him. Wilma's request was that we not be sad, but rejoice in one another and remember the good times!

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Michael Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
