Anna Schenewerk Obituary

Anna Catherine Schenewerk, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, at Westwood Hills Nursing Center in Poplar Bluff, MO.

She was born on October 24, 1931, to Ray and Mary (Elson) Starwalt in Mattoon, Illinois. Anna graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1949 and married her beloved husband, Herbert Schenewerk, on September 9, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas, just before his deployment to the Korean War.

Throughout her life, Anna was deeply involved in her community and demonstrated a genuine spirit of service. She was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and actively participated in various community organizations. Anna's commitment to service extended to her roles as a Twin Springs 4H leader and President of the PTA/PTO when her daughters were young.  She was also a valued member of Altrusa International and enjoyed the camaraderie of the Cardinal Red Hats in her later years.

Anna had a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper, retiring from Bunny Bread after 25 years. In 1984, she co-founded Gift Connection, where she devoted 36 years to serving customers alongside four generations of her family. Additionally, Anna and her husband Herb operated Schenewerk U-Haul for 60 years, embodying a true partnership in both business and life.

Above all, Anna cherished spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Sue (Dennis) Fox and Nancy (Bob) Kimbrow, three grandchildren, Julie Kimbrow, Nicole (Jeremy) Conover, and Andrew Fox, as well as four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Brayden Conover, Jeffrey, and Kynder Fox.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert, and six brothers: Willard, Paul, Marion, Harold, and Rex Starwalt. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am officiated by Reverend Terry Sharpe and Michael Kelley.
